For over 14 years FMG have represented and handled PR for one of the world’s biggest and most successful rock/pop bands Duran Duran.
Unlike any of their contemporaries, the British band, who have sold over 100 million records during their 30-year career, have made a phenomenal comeback
In 2002 FMG were hired by band members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor, and their management advisers, after the band decided to reform with its five original founding members. The plan was to record an album of new material and secure a record deal, along with further plans to tour the UK.
FMG’s media strategy was critical and pivotal to the band’s reformation and reacquaintance with the British media and its fans. Equally important was the media task of re-establishing the band’s musical identity and credentials in a contemporary modern-day music scene, which would seek both media and public acceptance.
Having spent a year re-establishing the band’s media credibility, FMG’s media campaign for the band kicked off properly in 2003, when the band performed together in the original lineup for the first time in 25 years at The Forum in London. Tickets for the show sold out in four minutes, amid a national media frenzy engineered by FMG.
FMG’s media strategy was devised around re-educating and re-engaging both the media and the British public about the band’s phenomenal career achievements, chart success and their musical heritage. As one of the very elite club of British bands to conquer America, we highlighted how Duran Duran had inspired some of the greatest modern-day bands and artists from the Killers to Lady Gaga, and Mark Ronson to the Scissor Sisters.
In doing so, FMG positioned the band to be seen by the media and the British public as a cool and contemporary act, thus paving the way for three chart-topping albums and countless arena concert tours bringing along a hardcore loyal fanbase, while appealing to a new generation of teenage music fans.
The Forum show in London saw the band perform to a sell-out crowd and to critical acclaim from fans and the media alike. The NME, who had for years pitched a war of hatred against the band, had to admit their performance was “faultless” as was the sheer diversity of celebrities and stars who turned out for their first show, ranging from the Prodigy’s Keith Flint to Stephen Fry.
The PR campaign implemented by FMG in the critical years of their reformation between 2002 and 2005 was key and instrumental in securing the band no fewer than 5 major achievement awards during its time representing the band.
MTV VMA’s – VMA Lifetime Achievement Award (2003)

FMG has been pivotal in maintaining the band’s historic and continued success with the media. The coverage we have generated has been vast – continuous tabloid headlines, front covers of glossy lifestyle magazines, feature-based broadsheet supplements, critically acclaimed music reviews and fashion photoshoots of high end style magazines. Our broadcast coverage has seen the band interviewed on all the high-end chat shows, major news networks, and political and current affairs shows.
FMG have also been instrumental in the solo projects of each band member for the last 14 years, from Simon Le Bon’s yachting exploits, when he was reunited with the yacht Drum to race in the Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race, to the snow-covered lakes of Sweden where he took on Olympic skier and TV presenter Graham Ball for the adrenaline fuelled extreme winter sports show High Altitude. We have also been instrumental in working with Simon on his charitable work, supporting the life-saving work of the air ambulance charities.
We handled all the book PR campaign for John Taylor’s Sunday Times best seller, In The Pleasure Groove which shot to No. 5 in the Sunday Times Top 10 Best Sellers and No. 6 in The New York Times Best Sellers. The book was a phenomenal success for John and we secured broad media coverage with everything from CNN to Sky News, The Guardian, BBC Breakfast, The Sunday Times to GQ.
Always one for his artistic exploits, and often referred to as the Andy Warhol of Duran Duran, we also worked on several projects for Nick Rhodes including his collaboration with Stephen Tin Tin Duffy on The Devils. We also worked on Nick’s TV Mania album collaboration with ex-Duran Duran member Warren Cuccurullo as well as his “Bei Incubi “ (Beautiful Images ) photography exhibition. We secured coverage in a broad cross-section of print, radio, TV and social media from GQ, to The Quietus, BBC 6 Music, the Independent, the Huffington Post and the Daily Mail.
